Dead in the Family - Book 10 September 8, 2010 N. McCusker (Hertfordshire, England) Dead in the Family is not my favourite Sookie Stackhouse book to date as it is more of a stepping stone into book 11.
I loved it none the less. It sees all the characters we've come to love, Sookie is still recovering from her incident with the fairies, and Eric has his maker return with a new child who you love but fear. Claude moves in with Sookie and it's nice to be able to see their connection and relationship grow since Claudette's death.
This series is really starting to develop into a more mature series as the characters and plots develop and grow.
For all those who loved the first 9 books, you will not be disappointed as it remains as an addictive read as the previous books.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Brilliantly Realistic August 26, 2010 L.A. (London, UK) I loved it. I'm so glad that Harris didn't just brush over the whole torture thing & act like Sookie could just get over something like that. The approach to this book was perfect as a follow up to the last one. We can see Sookie has been affected in a way that will change a part of her forever, and after what happened to her that's exactly how it should be. I think making this book a map of her recovery rather than a stand alone book will ensure the character continues to grow & develop, which you can see with all the relationships & emotions she works through in this book. Plus it leaves Harris with a great platform for the next one. Overall I think it's a brilliant addition to the series & definitely a must for anyone who has read the book before.
Sookie gets tougher August 24, 2010 Roman Clodia (London) Picking up immediately after the last book ([[Dead and Gone: A True Blood Novel (Sookie Stackhouse Vampire 9)]]), Sookie is still traumatised and healing from recent events and has changed: no longer the soft, sweet, cute Sookie who just wanted to protect and safeguard everyone, she is harder and decides, uncomfortably, that some people might deserve to die.
After the diverse interests of recent books, this one keeps its focus quite tightly on the vampires with lots of Pam and Eric who are my favourite characters. There's more vamp politics, we get to visit Eric's home (at last!) and meet his `father' and unexpected vamp `brother'.
Not everyone has liked this book from the reviews, but I really enjoyed it: I like the fact that the characters haven't remained static, that they have evolved in response to events which have gone before, and not always in comfortable ways. Hints dropped towards the end suggest, too, that all has not been satisfactorily resolved in Sookie's life and that there are more changes to come - can't wait!
The 10th True Blood Novel August 23, 2010 Martha This book was absoloutely AMAZING! Even though i was going on holiday the day after i ordered it and the p+p cost more than the book it was SO worth it!
A great new title August 13, 2010 Gareth Wilson - Falcata Times Blog Fans of Sookie, be it from the TV series, True Blood, or from Charlaines established series will really love to get their hands/teeth upon this offering. As usual it has her instantly recognisable writing style backed up with a whole host of lead as well as supporting characters. Add to that great prose, wonderful dialogue and character growth that can be surprising as well as emotionally upsetting for the reader and you know that its definitely a book that is going to garner a reaction. Great stuff.
